The Great Pandemic - The Spanish Flu (1918- 1920)

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this blog..

Today I am going to write about  a very dangerous pandemic which took place almost a century ago...

Yes, I am talking about The Spanish Flu...

So let's begin...

During 1918 a H1N1 influenza stain emerged as the caused for the great Spanish Flu, it is also called 'greatest medical holocaust in the history'.

The Spanish Flu is also counted as one of the greatest pandemic situation that  ever prevailed...

Well let us talk about it's origin..

While it's unlikely that the “Spanish Flu” originated in Spain, scientists are still unsure of its source. France, China and Britain have all been suggested as the potential birthplace of the virus, as has the United States, where the first known case was reported at a military base in Kansas on March 11, 1918.

What Is the Flu?

Influenza, or flu, is a virus that attacks the respiratory system. The flu virus is highly contagious: When an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, respiratory droplets are generated and transmitted into the air, and can then can be inhaled by anyone nearby.
Additionally, a person who touches something with the virus on it and then touches his or her mouth, eyes or nose can become infected.

So now let us talk about the deaths...

It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States. Mortality was high in people younger than 5 years old, 20-40 years old, and 65 years and older. The high mortality in healthy people, including those in the 20-40 year age group, was a unique feature of this pandemic.

Let's see the symptoms of this flu??

The sick, who experienced such typical flu symptoms as chills, fever and fatigue, usually recovered after several days, and the number of reported deaths was low.

So let's see at the precautions of this flu...

No Prevention and No Treatment for the 1918 Pandemic Virus

Available tools to control the spread of flu were largely limited to non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI's) such as isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limits on public gatherings, which were used in many cities

So now let's see how this pandemic ended??

By the summer of 1919, the flu pandemic came to an end, as those that were infected either died or developed immunity.

So now that this is enough for today...

Will meet you soon...
Till that STAY HOME and STAY SAFE...
